INTRODUCTIONI wanted to protect my (post 7/2011, Sandy Bridge) 2011 MacBook Air 11" laptop but did not want to carry it necessarily in a sleeve all the time. I liked the idea of a thin plastic shell that would protect the MBA, and not cause me to waste time putting it in and out of a sleeve each time I wanted to use the laptop.PROS1. Very thin - I have a Speck clear cases for my MacBook Pro 13", 15", and 17" and this shell for the MacBook Air is much thinner. Many who try my laptop out can't even tell that there is a protective shell on the laptop.2. Clear - I prefer the clear, colorless Speck shell as it allows the aluminum color to show through. The MacBook Air looks as good or even better with the shell, since the shell produces a kind of clear, glossy layer, like a clear coat finish on a car's paint.3. Perfect fit - I'm always amazed by how well this Speck case fits and literally just snaps onto the MacBook Air using just several small tabs that protrude ever so slightly in strategic locations that one can barely notice.4. Much more protective than a skin - I understand how people would like to use a skin, to keep the minimalist approach and not interfere with the thinness and elegance of the MacBook Air, but this Speck shell is literally a shell and I believe provides better protection from dents, and not just from scratches.CONS1. I have not done any type of objective, semi-formal testing on this, but I'm always concerned that any plastic shell will prevent some of the laptop's heat from dissipating out of the aluminum laptop case. My MacBook Air's fans have not turned on to any audible level while I have been using this shell, so I am not too concerned, but conceivably, any covering may cause the laptop to runner warmer, and consequently shorten component life.2. The only part of the laptop that shows any flex, is at the center of the top lid, where one usually places their fingers to open the laptop from its clamshell position (above the center camera). This part has a long, but very thin tab to secure the top lid shell to the laptop, but by repeatedly opening the laptop and stressing this center piece of the shell, it can pop out. With care, however, one learns to grip the laptop better when opening and I seem to be avoiding this initial problem with the case lid flexing on opening.3. Although this laptop case is designed for the MacBook Air's 90 degree angle "L" shaped MagSafe charger cable, the cable does touch an edge of the plastic shell that just ever so slightly causes the charging contacts not seated properly. This problem is infrequent, and easily rectified by just wiggling the connector slightly and it's fine. This happens only about once a week of daily use. The "defect" on mine, may be only literally 1/2 of 1 mm, likely due to an undesired variation in manufacturing.CONCLUSIONThis case succeeds in allowing a MacBook Air owner to use their laptop without having to worry about scratches and minor thumps. It allows me to rapidly put the laptop into my bag/backpack and not have to waste time dealing with a sleeve, unless you wanted to put it into a sleeve for extra protection. Visually, most people cannot tell that the MacBook Air is in any kind of protective case and allows the natural aesthetics to show through, and even adds a little shine and gloss to the finish. I'm very happy with this product.

I take care of my stuff. In fact, I just donated my old white macbook to an elementary school that I have been using for more than three years without any case like this one. It has a few minor scratches but good overall. Anyhow, I bought Macbook Air and wanted to protect it just in case. Rather than a sleeve, I chose this see-through case to admire the beauty of the product. It was a big mistake! The see-through case started to crack all over the places. It started with one, so I figure I may have dropped it or something. Then another appeared; then another... Soon, the case had more than four cracks top and bottom of the clip on cases. Now, the cracks makes the computer look worse than without the case on. I am not going to get another Speck SeeTrue case, ever!

I just received my case yesterday and it arrived super fast, even with the President Day holiday that delayed it. I tried it on my MBA right away and it fits so perfectly! The review for this product at Apple.com says that theirs was sometimes cracked or didn't fit the laptop well but that wasn't the case for me. It was literally a snap to put on. Not much extra weight added onto this thin and light laptop and it gives it a good feel of protection without making it bulky. Also, since it's clear, you still see the elegant design that the MBA has. The only thing I would say I didn't like is the bottom piece has the rubber things that matches the black spots of the MBA, but I think they made it too thick so that part seems bulkier than needed. OH and this is pretty irrelevant but whoever designed the box that it came in SUCKS. It took forever just to get the case out and somewhere inbetween yanking and wanted to just rip the box apart, I was scared i might've broken the case! But it was fine and in the end I just destroyed the packaging. Overall, the case is very ideal if you want a solid protection for your MBA, plus I can still fit the laptop + case in my neoprene Incase sleeve! which is nice because it's like double protection for this expensive baby. AND buying it on Amazon means cheaper + no tax so I ended up paying only $39 total when it's probably $50+ at the Apple store. Great deal!
